This site has been developed with the hope of preserving and expanding the Kletke-Durham genealogy.
As I've learned through my research, there are two distinct Kletke genealogical lines in North America. The first are the Kletke's of Canada and northern United States. This family immigrated from Volhynia (in what is now the Ukraine) and settled near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Over the years members of the family have moved to the nothern states of Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The surname's original spelling was "Klettke."
The other Kletke line immigrated from Prussia around the turn of the century and after landing in New York, settled in southern Kansas. The family participated in the Oklahoma land run and eventually homesteaded just east of Alva, Oklahoma where a community of Lutherans had settled. This family; the decendants of Gottlieb, Magadalena, and Edward; are documented throughout this website. The surname's original spelling was "Klaedtke". There is currently no connection between the two Kletke families but we are actively looking for it and hope to eventually connect the two lines.
Also, included in this collection are the names and dates for the Durham/Bridge families of Colorado. After years of moving around the south, John Thurman Durham eventually landed in eastern Colorado where he and his wife raised their four children. This site tries to gather information on this family, it's decendants and ancestors.
So take some time to wander through the database and learn our family history. Also, please send me any additional corrections, names, dates, pictures, or stories that you'd like to see included here.
